Title: Stalking Jack the Ripper
Series: Stalking Jack the Ripper, #1
Author(s): Kerri Maniscalco
Synopsis: Seventeen-year-old Audrey Rose Wadsworth was born a lord’s daughter, with a life of wealth and privilege stretched out before her. But between the social teas and silk dress fittings, she leads a forbidden secret life.
Against her stern father’s wishes and society’s expectations, Audrey often slips away to her uncle’s laboratory to study the gruesome practice of forensic medicine. When her work on a string of savagely killed corpses drags Audrey into the investigation of a serial murderer, her search for answers brings her close to her own sheltered world.
It’s the first time I’ve read a book about this genre and I really enjoyed it a lot! More or less I imagined what this book was about, and really exceeded my expectations! It is a dark and mystery thriller inspired by the brutal murders of the infamous and vile Jack the Ripper.
I remembered that long ago I saw a movie called “The Hell” with Johnny Depp and I liked it, is very interesting this issue of Jack the Ripper and seeing this book did not hesitate to read it. From the first page I was delighted, the author plasma an exquisite atmosphere of London in 1888, the description of the costume, tea time, I would have liked to be in those meetings and know all the snacks and eat them clear.
The characters are interesting, the captivating mystery and the simple fact of having opened a more page on the story of Jack the Ripper makes this story highlight. All the characters are brilliant, and have a lot of personality, its protagonist Audrey Rose is very admirable but the fact that it is determined to specialize in forensic sciences makes it unusual and intriguing. Despite living in a society questioning the value of women in fields outside of tea parties or being a housewife, she struggles to pursue a difficult career under the supervision of her uncle and the pleasure of opening bodies , without relinquishing her feminine manners. My favorite character is Thomas Cresswell reminded me so much of Sherlock Holmes, meticulous, arrogant, perfect, and too cute. I loved his personality! The way she talks and intimidates Audrey. I fell in love with him. He is also interested in forensic medicine and accompanies Audrey throughout the investigation. And since this story looks like suspense film, I thought that Stalking Jack the Ripper would only be a dark and bloody reading, a little heavy for my taste but it turned out that it is also full of black humor. And I had a lot of fun with Thomas’s occurrences and his crooked humour.
Stalking Jack The Ripper is a bloody historical novel of suspense and is spectacular. My words will never do justice to this fascinating takeover of one of the world’s best known serial killers, but I recommend this book to immerse yourself in history. It’s intriguing, fascinating, black humor, mystery, I loved this book! If you are very sensitive to the explicit I do not recommend this book, but if you like everything I described above you may like this book. I can’t wait to read their second parts.
